The Valentine

In days of old a valentine Was often sent in
disguise.
You were to figure out who sent it,
And let that person know you were wise.

This is just the very thing
That my father did.
My mother knew it was from him -
Years before I was their kid.

His sister did the artful deed,
The letter she did address.
My mother a reply did not heed,
So my father was in distress.

It took a year to answer him,
And patience he must have had.
For he went to court her then,
And later on became my dad.
