A Thanksgiving Memorial

Dear Lord, as we gather together once more
And bow down our heads to pray,
We think of the things that have happened to us
Since our last Thanksgiving Day.
The laughter we've all shared together,
The good times and sometimes the pain,
And now as we come to your table, Lord,
We offer our thanks once again.

We thank You, Lord, for our families and friends,
For food and for love that we've shared.
And more than anything else, Dear God,
We're so thankful our lives have been spared.
For this year, things are so different
And we'll never be quite the same.
On September eleventh our world fell apart,
And America suddenly changed.

So this year, Lord, as we gather around
We remember those lives that were lost.
And we pray for the families who's loved ones are gone
And we think of the terrible cost.
And please, Lord, we pray that You'll wipe from our minds
The horrors we witnessed that day.
For the nightmares are many, and so hard to bear, 
Please take all those memories away.

And we pray for our loved ones in far, distant lands,
That You'll be there as battles are fought.
And You'll be with their families, waiting at home,
To comfort and offer support.
We're so thankful, Lord, that the will to go on
Beats strong in the hearts of us all;
That our nation is strong, as united we stand,
That before You, we'll always stand tall.

And so we are even more mindful this year
Of the bounties we're sharing these days.
And the prayers that we offer for harvest
Make us thankful in so many ways.
So let us be joined altogether once more,
Sing praises for all that You do.
May a brotherly love make our hearts beat as one.
In all things, we'll give thanks unto You.
