On the day that you were born
I gently spoke your name
You stole my heart completely
I'll never be the same

There has been so much joy
As I have watched you grow
The love I hold for you
I want the world to know

Time goes so quickly
Now you're a little boy
You play with bugs and frogs
Sometimes, your sandbox toys

Because you love me so much
You give me special presents
With pure love from a small child's heart
I know all these are priceless

Running into the house
With your hands behind your back
You say, "Mama, close your eyes, I have a surprise for you!"
Holding out my hands, I'm a little nervous, too

I open my eyes to my surprise
I'm oh, so very glad
In my hands, this time is not a snake
But a very lovely crawdad!
