If My Gifts Were
Taken Away
I
thought about the gifts God gave
And all that I have done
To prove to Him that I deserve
To be the only one
Who has the gifts He's granted me
Just what to do or say
So He will know I've not forgotten
To use them every day
To spread the word that Christ was born
To save us, everyone
And yet I know that I fall short
Of praising Christ the Son
With singing voice and written word
With deed and strength of mind
With loving heart and gentle touch
With always being kind
So if I've done so poor a job
Of doing what I should
And not used gifts that God gave to me
For doing all I could
To help the poor and faint of heart
To find God and to trust
Then why should God let me have gifts
I've not used well enough?
So I will try and look beyond
The simple world I've formed
That never calls me to reach out
Nor rage against the storm
And work on ways that I can have
The kind of faith I should
That reaches out to those in need
And tries to do some good
For I know not why God gave me
So many special gifts
I only know my heart would break
To lose some as I live
Not voice, nor word, not health, nor strength
No these I could endure
To have my girls lose God's good grace
Would break me
I am sure
So I will work to help them be
A gentle loving kind
For if God takes these gifts from me
There'll be no sadder time. |
