Copy
& Paste

I've received several requests for a TIPs page covering Copy & Paste methods. There are many ways to copy and paste text, and I doubt if I know them all, but I thought I would share with you two of my personal favorite ways to copy from one application and paste into another. For this example I'll copy from Notepad and paste into Internet Explorer.

To select the text you wish to copy, place the cursor at the beginning or end of the line, click the left mouse button and hold it while you drag the cursor over the text "www.my-tgif.com", letting off once all of the text is high-lighted , as shown below.

Now that your desired text is  high-lighted , you can copy it by clicking on the Edit menu and selecting Copy, as shown below. This will place a copy of the text in a part of the computers memory referred to as the "ClipBoard". Once a copy is in the clipboard, you can switch to another program and paste your copied text where needed.

For example, I've now switched to Internet Explorer, and will "paste" my copied text into the address field. Before pasting in the new information, you'll need to select the area or place you wish this new text to be pasted to....to replace already existing text, place the cursor at the beginning or end of the line, click the left mouse button and hold it while you drag the cursor over the text, letting off once all of the text is  high-lighted , as shown below. To simply add your copied text, without replacing any, just left click at the desired location.

As you may have noticed earlier, on the Edit menu where we first Copied, there is also a Paste. Once you have selected the area you wish to paste into, click on the Edit menu and select Paste, as shown below.

Your new text should now appear in the desired location.

If you are pasting a web address into your browser, as I've done in this example, you will need to hit the enter to key to go the new address...

There are several other ways to Copy and Paste
all of which require you to select your source and your target. You can utilize shortcuts to accomplish the menu selections I've demonstrated above.

Select your source text
"www.my-tgif.com"

then on your keyboard, press

"Control" and "C" together, to copy the text

Select your target area "www.yahoo.com"

then on your keyboard, press

"Shift" and "Insert" together, to paste text

Or... your program may have a button

for both menu functions.....like...

[copy   ]

and

[paste ]

And I'm sure there are more ways to copy and paste,

but these work well enough for me :-)

Have Fun !!!
