A Mother's Dream
There
you stand in a veil of white,
A train of satin shimmering in pale
candlelight.
Roses and baby's breath all around
A beautiful, flowing white wedding gown.
A dream come true for any mother
With a daughter like you.
When you were only
two,
Little blond dog-ears dressed in ribbons of
blue,
Sweet frilly dresses and white ballet
shoes...
Oh how I dressed you
Just dreaming of the day
When I would be able
To see you this way.
My sweet little angel
So lovely and feminine
Turned into a tomboy
When she was eleven...
Wearing blue-jeans and pig-tails
And playing boy's games...
But when you were sixteen,
The picture had changed.
You've discovered you're a girl
And you know what it means.
Once again you are beautiful...
A princess in every right...
And this time...to the boys' delight!
And now, you are twenty...
More beautiful than ever...
And there you stand in a veil of white,
A train of satin shimmering
In pale candlelight,
Roses and baby's breath all around...
A beautiful, flowing white wedding gown.
A dream come true
For any mother with a daughter like you.
